Vacuum filtration

A simple technique for removing a solid-phase particle from a liquid phase. Usually, people use an alumina vacuum flask with a paper filter on top, and a erlymeyer flask with a vacuum port.

When using a paper filter, it is critical to fully dry the filter paper before attempting to remove the filtered product, or the filter can tear, causing paper fibers to detach into the product. Paper filters should be dried below 100 degrees C to prevent charring.
